Lung-Friendly Habits Quiz
Answer 10 quick questions about smoke, air, work, activity, diet and vaccines to see how lung-friendly your daily habits are. You get a simple score and a few tips matched to your answers.
Question 1 of 10
Not medical advice
This tool gives general information only. It can’t diagnose any condition or tell you whether you need a test or treatment. Talk to a doctor about your own health. If you have severe breathlessness, chest pain, are coughing up blood or your lips look blue, call 911 (US) or 999 (UK). See our Medical Disclaimer.
How it works
Questions 1 to 9 each score between 0 and 3 points, where 3 is the most lung-friendly answer. Your total is out of 27:
- 21 to 27: Strong habits
- 12 to 20: Some room to improve
- 0 to 11: Several areas to work on
Questions with several possible exposures, such as home or outdoor air, start at 3 points and lose a point for each exposure you select. Tips are chosen from the questions where you scored lowest, up to five in total.
Question 10 asks about symptoms. If you select any symptom, the result tells you to talk to a doctor instead of showing a habits rating. If you select coughing up blood, chest pain or breathlessness at rest, it tells you to get urgent help. Habits can’t explain away symptoms, and symptoms always need a professional opinion.
Why these habits?
The questions cover well-known factors that affect lung health: smoking and secondhand smoke, indoor and outdoor air pollution, workplace dust and fumes, physical activity, diet and protection against respiratory infections. The quiz is a simple self-check. It is not a validated medical risk score, and the point values are our own way of summarizing your answers.
The quiz never recommends a supplement. No supplement replaces the habits it asks about.
